“After that post about the end of Laguna and the new show in development in Newport, I received lots of questions, so I just wanted to address them here by posting a few Frequently Asked Questions. Please note that I have no part in the show and the information I have is gathered from sources and locals who have reported this to me.”
Laguna Beach is over for good. How will this affect Virtual Laguna Beach?
MTV has made it clear that in the event that Laguna Beach ends, the show will live on virtually and the Virtual Laguna Beach game would continue to operate online. There is a chance that if the new Newport series secedes that a Virtual Newport Beach might be created.
I really wanted to see the season 3 cast end in their senior year. What has happened to them?
I covered this in the last section of this post. To sum it up, Breanna and Rocky became friends again, Tessa moved away to her home town of San Celemente and does not talk to her Laguna friends much anymore, Rocky continues to date Alex, Breanna found a new boyfriend, Kevin, Kyndra decided to attend Laguna Beach High School for her senior year (in the past, she was home schooled), and all the typical Laguna stuff like Winter Formal. The LBHS Class of 2007 will celebrate Prom on June 2 and graduate on June 21.
Why did MTV decide to end Laguna Beach?
MTV decided to end Laguna Beach, one of the most popular reality series in MTV history, for many reasons. First of all, MTV and the producers noticed how the show declined in ratings big time during its third season. The reason behind the decline in ratings was because after season 2, the cast that everyone had watched for the show’s first 2 seasons had all graduated and moved on. The old cast leaving and the introduction of a whole new cast caused the show to loose viewers. I guess that the producers just didn’t want to risk airing another unsuccessful season of Laguna Beach and instead work on a different show, in a different location, with a different cast.
What is MTV doing in Newport, and when will we see the show?
MTV is currently working on a new reality drama similar to Laguna Beach in Newport Beach, a beach town made famous by FOX’s The OC, and just a few miles away from Laguna. The show is still in pre-production and development. Currently, reports coming from Newport tell us that MTV has begun casting at Newport Harbor High School, but nothing is official right now. I’m thinking that casting will happen soon, if not already, and filming will continue for a period of 6 months similar to the filming schedule of Laguna Beach. So I’m thinking we will see this new series sometime in 2008.

I’m so sad that it’s ended! Though it did get really routinish! winter formal, cabo, prom and graduation, you always knew what to expect! But I still loved it, more than any other reality show!
Its sad the show is ending because i did like it but all good things must come to an end. Lagunas first two seasons were AMAZiNG…i have them both on DVD. The third season just never did it for me…it was never the same as the first two. Unfortunately a lot of these shows that we fall in love with come to a close. I LOVED The OC and was crushed when it was cancelled. All we can do is hope the new show will be just as great as Laguna was. There is always The Hills too…thats a great pick up where Laguna Beach Season 2 left off.

Thank god! This show was nothing but a bunch of cracker-ass spoiled teenagers doing nothing. Newport Beach sounds more interesting ANYWAYS.

The Hills is actually pretty good. I can’t believe I watched it but I do. I like season 2 better though with the whole Audrina/Spencer/Heidi love triangle. Very 90210-ish indeed. Missed the final 5 episodes though. What happened?
omg i’m really sad now. 😦 I had never watched LB before–the first season i had ever watched was the 3rd one, and i really had gotten into it. Why must all good shows be cancelled? But to echo what others have said, the Hills is a good show. I liked LB better though bc it was mostly about high school girls
well i kind of expected Laguna to end.. season 3 just didn’t top seasons 1 and 2! but i think every girl teen will always remember laguna because of it’s famous words (dunzo!) and parties and fashion! the hills is awesome too but i guess lagunas better because they’re all high schoolers.. and again I’m a huge OC fan so I’ll definetely watch Newport Beach just for The OC and see if it can top laguna!

this is so sad!!!!!!!!!!! i was seriously hopping to watch the next season. ive watched all seasons and i thought the 3rd one was not that bad. newport just doesnt sound as interesting as laguna . i guess nothing lasts forever
THATS BULLSHIT…LAGUNA BEACH WAS THE GREATEST SHOW EVER..IM PRETTY SURE NEWPORT BEQCH WILL DEFINETLY NOT BE THE SAME AS LAGUNA BEACH. SO I THINK THIS DECISION IS REALLY DUMB. OMG!!! WTF? LB was the best frickin’ show there was on MTV. The Hills was a good take off but it wasn’t LB! My boyfriend was the one that got me hook on LB and then on the TH and we seriously are both super bummed out. We just can’t figure it out?! The show was awesome and nothing will take the top. FUCK NEWPORT and MTV!

this makes me sad like yeah i agree, seasons one and two of laguna beach did attract more veiwers while no one was really familar with the season 3 cast. I personally loved season three but I guess others didn’t. I’ll probably watch newport beach when it comes out but its like maui fever. Season 3 should come out on DVD tho.
I can’t believe that Laguna Beach isn’t coming back. I agree that season 1 and 2 were probably better than season 3 but it was still good and I still watched every episode. You wait all year to see what season 3’s cast did during their senior year and to see what happened to everybody then MTV has to go and cancel it….I am very sad. : (

OMG……Thank god Laguna beach is gone and Hello Newport Beach….The last Lb was way bad I stopped watching it because it was the same thing over and over again…..NB is different and needs to get out more only had 8 shows but they were so much better then I thought they were going to be. The parents were around way more then LG and that gives the wrong message to kids these days. And I got so hook on how they were all not as rich stuck up as LG cast…..Dont get me wrong you can tell they had money but they didnt act like the stuck up brats from Laguna. By far Newport beach was way more real then LG…..Please keep the shows coming im so hooked…..!!!! thanks
