Variety reports that MTV is overhauling their programming for the fall schedule & 2008.
“The Hills,” is back and will receive an 18-episode order, roughly double the number of episodes in its most recent season. It was also revealed that the third season would debut on Aug. 13.
“MTV has decided to order a fourth season of its hit “Laguna Beach”; it had previously considered not bringing it back.
Net is moving forward on a new season with an all-new cast. Series will be very much in the vein of the show’s first season — following a group of classmates in their final year (or, in some cases, two years) of high school.
While show won’t be shot at Laguna High, it is currently in production at another unnamed Orange County school — likely in Newport Beach — and could be on the air later this year.
Execs are still undecided whether to tweak the name to reflect the new locale or extend the franchise by keeping the “Laguna” title.”
Also confirmed Wednesday a series greenlight for docu series “The Life of Ryan,” about teen skateboarder Ryan Scheckler, the San Clemente native who is one of the sport’s rising stars.
Series will follow Scheckler in both his career and his family, particularly his relationship with his siblings, and will be on the air later this year.

THE IDEA OF MOVING FROM LAGUNA BEACH TO NEWPORT BEACH IS UNDERSTANDABLE. THE REASON WHY I AGREE IS BECAUSE SEASON 1 AND 2 WERE BRILLIANT AND GOOD TO WATCH I ENJOYED IT ALOT HOWEVER WHEN SEASON 3 CAME I THINK IT JUST REUNIED IT FOR ME SORRY FOR SAYING THAT.BECAUSE I DONT KNOW ABOUT NEWPORT BEACH BUT HOWEVER I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE FROM THERE. I HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE BUT I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD STAY IN LAGUNA BEACH KEEP IT AS AN ORIGINAL PROGRAMME BUT GET AUDITIONS MORE INTERSTING PEOPLE IN THEIR FINAL YEAR AND GET PEOPLE THAT WERE JUST LIKE THE CAST FROM SEASON 1 AND 2. Evere since the frist season of laguna beach, i have been hooked. It shows what real high school kids go through during their years of growing up.
It would be really stupid if it was cancelled. I would really hate to see alot of people angery. Please don;t cancel the show its one of my favorites. Please i beg you don’t CANCEL it.

Laguna Beach is a refreshing, fun, show to watch for those of us that are old enough to want to remember why we’re glad we’ve moved on to the next stage of life. It nice to reminice about high school events and how the littlest things seemed huge. I think its good for kids that age to see that high school is high school no matter where you live and everyone has to deal with the same stuff. Keep it on and keep it smart. Also the Hills is awesome!! I just love Lauren Conrad and would just like to fix her up with some decent boys. I can’t figure out what Heidi sees is Spencer. He is so slimy I’m amazed he doesn’t leave a wet trail wherever he goes. I know Heidi’s blond but GOOD GRIEF open your eyes!! I hope the third season focuses on Lauren, Audrina, and Whitney. Let Heidi and Lauren get together long enough for Lauren to tell Heidi where to go and how to get there then quietly fade Heidi and Spencer to black.
Oh yeah, and an update on Stephen and Laurens friendship status would be nice. Maybe a reunion show of all the Laguna Beach Season 1 cast. To see how LC, Stephen, Kristin,Dieter,etc relate to each other now would be fun.

Quite Frankly, I think that the producers are doing the right thing. There is no doubt that Season Three BLOWED. It was very depressing compared to Season One and Two. Im sure producers also noticed that The Hills were getting higher ratings as Laguna Beach ratings were declining rapidly. People were finding refuge in The Hills, a spin off of Laguna Beach rather than watch the third season. I’ve got to say, Kyndra was definitely a “Kristen” in every way, but Tessa….tsk tsk tsk. MAJOR EW. Lauren stood up for herself and you could hear Conrad without turning up your volume to the max.
Liz Gately really knows her stuff and Im ready to watch Newport Harbor. You have to be open to changes when something isnt going well. Going a few miles upcoast doesnt make much of a difference. High school is the same everywhere and the producers even kept going in the same region. Great Job and a round of applause to the producers because if they’d gone back to LBHS, their ratings would REALLY hit zero and then Newport Harbor wouldnt take off. While other people are saying NO, I hope the producers know that most are saying YES. [PLUS:::NEWPORT EVEN HAS PARENTS INVOLVED. MORE REAL THAN LAGUNA!!!]

i love laguna beach..i am so mad that mtv switched to newport for season 4. season 1 and 2 were the best…but season 3 was okay but the cast members seemed more childish and tried so hard to create drama…i am really sad laguna is over…but the hills is awesome!!

laguna beach is one of the best mtv’s show ever the fourth season now called “newport harbor: the real orange county” is in newport beach and the new cast looks cool even if im gonna miss the cast from LB i think that the new one ‘s gonna be popular too,
for the hills i like it but not that much it’s more proffessionnal and less fun than lb but it’s still good i hope LO ‘s gonna live with LC coz i missed her
